Windows 10 is coming…

Windows 10

“Windows 10 – It’s the Windows you know, only better”

Save the date! Windows 10 is finally arriving to our screens after a much anticipated wait. The new Microsoft OS, available on the 29th July 2015, will be available in 190 markets around the world, available in 7 different versions. But what makes it so different from its predecessors?

The major changes brought in by Windows 8 were not well received by users. The new interface and layout was difficult to adjust to, especially for those coming from previous Windows OS. Windows 10 hopes to remedy Microsoft’s prior attempt, by creating an operating system which is not only intuitive, but simple to use, very much like Windows 7.

So what are the benefits of Windows 10?

Adaptability

Windows 10 apps will work beautifully across all devices. Popular programmes such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint will not only be great for desktops, but also on mobile devices and tablets. On 2-in-1 devices, such as the Windows Surface Pro 3, the transition from laptop to tablet is nothing short of impressive, with the screen automatically configuring to the most ideal layout.

Meet Cortana

Say hello to Cortana, your very own personal assistant. Those with a Windows Phone may already be familiar with Cortana, but Windows 10 hopes to make Cortana even better and more functional. Armed with a host of PC commands, Cortana will make access to folders and files more efficient. Need a calendar reminder to pick up your dry cleaning on Tuesday? Need to search the web for last minute anniversary ideas? With Cortana, all you need to do is ask.

Virtual Desktops

Virtual Desktops are effectively virtual displays, allowing users to organise and navigate between windows with ease. Using Windows Task View, users are able to group and quickly locate windows.

Why consider Windows 10 for your business?

Windows 10 not only will perform better than previous versions of Windows, but also provide a better user experience. Users will find the interface intuitive and will feel very much at home if previously coming from Windows 7. Virtual desktops will allow you to make the most of any limited screen space you may have, increasing productivity.

If you’re currently running Windows 7 or 8, you will be able to download Windows 10 for free in its first year after its release.

What do we think at Nippy Gecko IT?

We reckon Windows 10 is the way forward. Windows 8 left a sour taste in the mouths of users. Its tablet-focused design missed the mark with those using desktops. Windows 10 will be an operating system capable of working across both desktop and mobile devices, with apps optimised to work brilliantly on both.

Why not try Windows 10 for yourself? Although still a pre-release build, the version currently available from Microsoft’s Windows Insider Programme is fast and stable enough for you to get a feel for Windows 10 before its release date.

Windows 10. It’s what Windows 8 should have been.
